OK, Cue the “Mission Impossible” theme music… “duh duh duh duh duh duh duh”
Wayne Coy, Mel McKay…your mission, should you accept it is…..
Wayne: We’re gonna do WHAT?!? A cooking competition?? I’m perplexed by the microwave! And its video? I have a face for radio!
Mel: First off, I only like images of myself when I can control the angle and lighting. Never been a fan of myself on video. But I wasn’t going to let that stop me from participating in this fun, super cool promo.
Wayne: Mad respect for people who earn their living in front of a camera. It always feels a bit ‘out of body’ for me. I am definitely much more comfortable in a live situation. Whether that is in-person, or on the air. The only real relief was that Mel is totally at home in the food world. This is something that is definitely in her ‘wheelhouse.’
Mel: I’m a foodie and a self-proclaimed amateur chef. The meals I love the most seem to start with zero planning and just come together. So, yeah…I admit I was super excited when I found out we got to be a part of ‘Chomped Challenge.’ I’ve watched a ton of cooking shows, so I really believed I could nail this competition. Boy was I wrong! Seriously, 3 minutes flies by…blink and it’s over.
Wayne: You ARE talking about food, right?
Mel: Not much time to present a beautiful looking plate. Our mystery basket included, Pork Chops, Organic Heirloom tomatoes, in season Peaches, Zucchini, Baby Arugula and Sourdough Bread. Our pantry held Organic Balsamic dressing, barbecue sauce and salt and pepper grinders.
Wayne: I thought arugula was that punching bag thing that hangs down in the back of your throat. And I was thinking, wow…never knew you could eat those! I’m not at all a fan of cooking shows but I do admit, once the chopping began, the competitive fires kicked on and I wanted to see us whip up something spectacular. It was really all Mel. She’s like our Steph Curry. It was just nice to be able to jump on her back and get carried to victory. We did win, right?
Mel: We had such a great time, everyone from Whole Foods and Livermore Valley Wine Country was a blast to hang out with.
Wayne: And they are VERY patient. They put up with our ‘radio-ness.’ Is that a word?”
This tape will destruct in 5 Seconds…. “duh duh duh duh”
