The Contra Costa County Library is hosting its annual book giveaway from August 8 – 19.
Tens of thousands of paperback and hard cover fiction, non-fiction and children’s books are available to the public during the 12-day giveaway.
The book giveaway is located in the shipping and receiving area behind the Pleasant Hill Library and runs Tuesday, August 8 through Saturday, August 19 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is closed on Sundays.
All books available for the giveaway have been removed from the library collection due to lack of circulation, poor condition or relevance.
“We need to keep our collection fresh and interesting and free up space on our crowded shelves,” says County Librarian Melinda Cervantes. “We are thrilled to share these books with the community.”
Books are available on a first-come, first-served basis and members of the public are advised to bring their own boxes or bags to transport materials.
A September 1998 resolution, signed by the County Board of Supervisors, allows the library system to declare outdated and damaged library materials as surplus and give them away as appropriate.
Tuesday, August 8 – Saturday, August 19 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Closed on Sundays)
