Meals on Wheels Delivers 5 Millionth Meal in Contra Costa County!

Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa hit a milestone on August 17th, 2016…

They delivered their 5 millionth meal!

They allowed KKDV to follow them on their journey from the food prep and packaging with Bateman Community Living in Antioch to the volunteers who deliver the meals every weekday…

Food is delivered to cafes hosted at senior centers or to volunteer pick up locations, like the one in Oakley that we had the pleasure to visit.  Food is delivered in cold and hot via coolers and warming bags.

Here are the hard workers of Bateman Community Living making the 2,100 meals that will be delivered just today!

Next, they’re loading onto the trucks to head out to disperse to over 90 routes serving all of Contra Costa County…

Our delivery guy, Troy, shows up at the Senior Center in Oakley where the volunteers (yes, on their own time!) are staged and ready to grab their meals and hit the road…

And this is Jill… She’s on her way to deliver the 5 millionth meal on Bethel Island and then it’s back at it again tomorrow!

You can be a volunteer like Jill.  Volunteers not only deliver a hot meal to a home-bound senior; they create companionship and often times, a wellness check.  Volunteers go through hours of training and have emergency contact information in order to get help for seniors who may need it.  You too can be a volunteer…
