“Two For A Show“: Gerry Wallace Ceramics plus Phil Simon Abstracts, Tuesday, July 2nd – Saturday, August 10th.
In keeping with our 70th anniversary year, Valley Art Gallery is delighted to present two long-time member artists: the works of beloved ceramicist Gerry Wallace, and the colorful abstracts of Phil Simon.
One of Gerry’s first ceramic shows was at Valley Art Gallery some 30 years ago. Since then she has shown her ceramics at the Orinda Books store, in Assoc. of Clay and Glass Artists shows and galleries in Walnut Creek, Davis, Pasadena, and Ohio. Having just celebrated her 85th birthday she is still able to work in her studio almost every day.
Phil’s mother, Mildred Simon, was a well-known local artist and one of the original founders and past president of the Valley Art Gallery at its inception in 1949. Phil will be present at a free reception Saturday, July 13 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A competition juried by Timothy Horn, nationally acclaimed painter of the California landscape, “Around and About Diablo” presents 36 choices of artistic interpretation of the beauty of the iconic Devil Mountain and the vibrancy of the surrounding area.
In addition, the Gallery has assembled nearly 300 new pieces representing the best of the best by East Bay artists on our unique sliding walls — with all works available for sale or rent. Also on hand is a wide-ranging juried selection of locally created fine crafts and jewelry.
Valley Art Gallery is free and open to the public, Tuesday – Saturday from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
