Our volunteers are the heart and hands of our organization. We love all of the 1500-plus volunteers who support our services to seniors. When you get involved, you help local older adults stay healthy, safe, independent, and connected to our community. And–volunteering is fun!
What does a home meal delivery driver do?
Once a week, you pick up and deliver 12-16 meals to homebound seniors. Meals are packaged in thermal containers and stay hot for up to 2 hours for delivery between 10:00AM and 12:00PM. Along with meals, drivers deliver smiles and a lifeline connection. You check in with your clients and make sure they’re healthy and safe. Detailed driving directions are included along with each meal. You’ll use your own car and must carry personal liability insurance and use a smart phone. A meal delivery route is ideal for a church or service group, so that each member drives just a few times a year, or more often if they wish.
What does a Friendly Visitor do?
You visit your senior friend once a week for about an hour. You can meet at a time that works for both of you, even in the evening or on the weekend. During your visit, just enjoy spending time together and have fun. You can play games, read books, go grocery shopping, or simply share stories. When you sign up to be a volunteer, we’ll ask you about yourself and what you like to do. Then, we’ll match you with a senior who shares your interests and whom we think you’ll enjoy. We have a long list of seniors who are waiting to be matched with a Friendly Visitor.
If you prefer, you can become a “Phone Buddy” and volunteer to create friendships over the phone instead of at their home.
What does a volunteer at a C.C. Café do?
You can take reservations over the phone, help set up for lunch, greet diners, or help serve food. Each weekday, seniors gather at the C.C. Café for a healthy meal in a social setting. We operate six C.C. Cafés:
